Today was my actual first working day – and pretty hectic too.

Morning was waking up all the boarders in the junior boys dorm (about 25 kids aged 7-9) and getting them dressed and ready for brekky. Food is actually really quite good! Apparently, the food at Ardvreck is to be made as an example of what food should be like in all independent schools!

brekky was the usual toast and cereal +bacon.
lunch was spag bol
dinner was baked potato (you were right mum!) and cheese with crackers and fruit and other stuff. Plus morning teas and afternoon teas and MILK AND BUNS!!! That’s right. Milk and buns. Then there’s also time for grub. Ha ha. won’t tell you what that is (for a couple of days at least. to keep you coming back for more!)

The kids are fantastic! And they have impecable manners!
“Morning Mr Stevens!”
They really are awesome. I’m going to have a lot of fun working with them all this year.

The days are MASSIVELY LONG for us and the kids. Day kids (non-boarders) start at 8:00am and go till 6:00pm. It’s good though, cos the day is broken up by heaps and heaps of sport, or ‘games’ as they call it here.

Today i coached the senior boys hockey and will be with them all this term. While the boys were running around in shorts and long sleeve shirts, i was wearing: thermal underwear + normal underwear, Short sleeve rugby top, long sleeve rugby top, tracksuit pants, and a large ski jacket and my russian hat… and i was STILL COLD!!!!

Apparently, the senior girls are going on a hockey trip to Europe in a few weeks – perhaps they need just one more staff member? hint hint.

Also took the senior boys for football (soccer) on the all weather court (the one previously covered in ice)

and then later on, took a group of kids for volleyball. (inside! yes!). Oh well, at least my flat is nice and warm.
