Saturday, the 26th of January – Australia day.
It becomes so much more important when you’re on the other side of the globe in sub-zero temperatures.

At the gappies conference, all of the Aussies agreed to meet up at the ‘Walkabout’ – an Aussie bar in Edinburgh. So I got all dressed up in my Wallabies gear and draped the Australian flag around my neck, and we headed off to the bar.

The bar was absolutley chockas! Aussies everywhere! And everyone dressed up in aussie flags and green and gold face paint.

We had a great time with all of the other gappies!

Me and Sally

By this stage, I was getting pretty damn hungry! I had practically no money, and, everything being so expensive, I had had barely anything to eat all day. I decided to find a Mcdonald’s! Here’s the problem: all I was wearing were a pair of jeans and a wallabies short sleeve guernsey, and it was the middle of the night in a very cold and very windy Edinburgh. So I ran! I absolutely sprinted the entire length of prices street (about 3-4km) in search of a Maccas! It’s a good way of keeping warm!

On the way, I met tonnes of interesting people. I was running in one direction, and I came across a man, who, like me, was running, but unlike me, was running in the opposite direction with his trousers down around his ankles! So, of course, I stopped to talk to him! The conversation went a bit like this:

Me: What the hell are you doing?!
Pantless random: I’m running!
Me: Why do you have your pants down?
Pantless random: I’m doing this for charity!
(i notice that he is holding two beers and had a cigarette in his mouth and realise it’s probably not for charity)
Pantless random: You an Aussie?
Me: Yep, and it’s Australia day!
Pantless Random: Woo hoo! Woop woop yeAH! etc.
Me: Is there a maccas near here?
Pantless random: Yeah, just down there (pantless random gestures in every direction)
Me: Thanks mate! Wish me luck! (and I exit stage left).

Here’s a pic of me and the pantless guy: (btw, in scotland, ‘pants’ means underwear, but this guy did have his undies on. Just to clarify!)

I did find maccas! Hallelujah!

I met some more interesting people in maccas! It was a gaggle of ladies (ages varying). After grabbing my ‘deli roll of the day’, they invited me over to their table. I sat there and chatted to them for ages!

After that, I ran back to the bar, arrived breathless, and started daincing and singing acada again. All in all, a great night out!
