I went away on tour with the rugby and hockey sides this week.

We had to leave Ardvreck at about 6:00 am, and caught a bus to edinburgh airport for a flight down to Bristol (British geography anyone?).

We arrived in Bristol, and went for a tour around Millfield prep and senior school. They were amazing! Millfield is pretty much the premier sporting school in England, so it had the most amazing sporting facilities i’ve ever seen! The prep (primary) school has six squash courts! There are only eight water-based artificial hockey pitches in schools in the UK, and Millfied has three! They cost over a million dollars to maintain a year – each! The senior school has about 5 rugby fields and an Olympic size swimming pool! Apparently, the school wanted to build a 25m pool, but the parents wanted the full 50m, so the parents paid the rest! Here’s a picture of the tennis court, which is enclosed by a massive, heated, bubble dome – to keep out the cold in winter (and summer).

Our rugby boys played a friendly against the Millfield rugby side. They were huge compared to our boys. We lost every single scrum but Ardvreck pulled through for a convincing win, 4 tries to nil.

We stayed the night in a travel lodge, and the boys prepared for their seven-a-side hockey tournament the next day.
